eBay Christmas Selling Guide UK 2026: Listings, Postage and Returns
PUBLISHED: 1 NOVEMBER 2026 · UPDATED 1 NOVEMBER 2026 · LISTINGPRO GUIDESNovember and December are the busiest weeks of the year for most UK eBay sellers. Buyers search earlier, compare more listings and care far more about delivery dates than they do in March. The sellers who do well are not the ones who list the most, but the ones whose listings are ready before the rush, whose postage promises are realistic and whose returns are handled without fuss. This guide sets out a practical plan for the season.
1. Get your listings ready in early November
Search demand for gifts builds through November, so the work you do now pays off for the whole season. Start with your best sellers and the items most likely to be bought as presents.
- Refresh titles: add the words gift buyers actually type, such as the recipient, the occasion or the set size, where they genuinely describe the item.
- Complete item specifics: buyers filter heavily at Christmas by brand, size, colour and age range. A missing specific can hide a listing from a filtered search.
- Check the main photo: on a busy results page the first image does most of the selling. Make sure it is bright, square on and shows the whole item.
- Bundle for gifting: sets and multi-buys suit gift buyers who want a ready made present.
2. Be honest about dispatch and delivery
Late parcels are the biggest cause of Christmas complaints, and they are usually avoidable.
- Set a dispatch time you can keep on your busiest day, not your quietest one. A same day promise you miss is worse than a one day promise you keep.
- Use tracked services for anything that matters. Tracking protects you if a buyer says a parcel never arrived and reassures buyers worried about timing.
- Check the carriers' last posting dates. Royal Mail and the major couriers publish their recommended last posting dates for Christmas each year. Plan your final dispatch day around them and say so clearly in your listings.
- Stock up on packaging now. Boxes, mailing bags and tape all run short in December.
3. Write a Christmas note into your listings
A short, clear line near the top of your description answers the question every gift buyer asks: will it arrive in time? State your dispatch time, the service you use and the date after which you cannot promise delivery before Christmas. Remove or update it once the season ends, so the listing stays accurate.
4. Price for the season, not just the day
Competition rises at Christmas, but so does demand. Before changing prices, check recently sold listings for the same item and condition so you are pricing against what buyers actually paid.
- Use multi-buy discounts to lift order value rather than cutting single item prices.
- Send offers to watchers selectively on items that have been watched but not bought.
- Avoid last minute price cuts on popular gift items, which often sell at full price in early December.
5. Plan for gift returns in January
Gifts come back after Christmas, and a calm, quick returns process protects your seller metrics.
- Review your returns policy now so you know exactly what you have offered before the busy period.
- Respond to return requests promptly. Slow replies are how simple returns turn into cases.
- Inspect and relist quickly so returned stock is back on sale for the January sales.
6. Protect your account during the rush
Higher sales volumes mean more messages, more parcels and more opportunity for mistakes. Keep an eye on your seller dashboard in Seller Hub each week, answer buyer messages within a day and upload tracking as soon as each parcel is sent. If you sell from a shared or public network while away from home, sign in with care and use strong, unique passwords.
